If the retaining wall is less than 3 feet high it will significantly streamline the installation process as a permit will not be required.
If the retaining wall will be 3 feet or taller a permit will be required. To obtain a permit we will need to submit stamped plans to your local building authority for approval. During the permitting process, we will need to submit a plat of your property. If you don’t have a current plat we will need to get a copy. Many times we can request a copy from the county and in rare cases, we will need to order a new plat for the property. With large projects, there is the possibility of needing to prepare a plan addressing erosion and sediment control during the construction.
Prior to construction, we will also need to have the property marked for utilities prior to breaking ground. Furthermore, it’s also important to know where the utilities are located when designing the location of the project in the earliest stages.
Retaining wall projects will often include some drainage solutions including french drains that lessen the hydrostatic pressure and divert water away from the property.
